Today I am going to explain the different ways to manipulate a photo by changing your shutter speed, aperture, and camera movement. This assignment has images that were suppose to be ripped from a magazine but in my house that is dominated by females there are only so many different images variations you can get from Real Simple and InStyle. Photographs will have to do.
Shutter Speed
You can see the contrast between the images for slow vs. fast shutter speed. In the first image, the shutter speed is slow and you can tell by how the car moving across the street is blurred. The tale lights are blurred and stretched. In the second image, the scene is frozen in time… no movement. I enjoy the first image more because it gives life to the scene of downtown Pasadena. With the second image it makes me wonder what is the purpose of taking a picture of 21 Choices?
Aperture
By adjusting your aperture you can manipulate the depth of field of an image. Both images are of the same candle just from opposite angles. In contrast we have a large aperture vs. a small. The second image that represents the small aperture isn’t as small as what would be preferred to demonstrate aperture but it will work. The first image has a large aperture, which means that only one area of the image is in focus while the rest is out of focus. In this case, the first candle is sharp while the background is blurry. By doing this, we are able to enjoy the details of the candle. In the second image, with its small(er) aperture you have multiple candles in focus. Both images are just as valuable as the other, while the first focuses on the detail the second is able to capture the entire scene. With small aperture, no corner is last, all aspects are in focus.
